Topic: Update and review of UK Distribution Network Operators smart grid projects
Abstract: UK electricity Distribution Network Operators have embarked on multiple smart grids projects funded under the UK Energy Regulator, Ofgem’s, 5 year £500m Low Carbon Networks Fund. The panel of leading DNO personnel engaged in the LCNF programme will provide an update and overview of the wide spectrum of projects, and discuss future proposals for work in this area.

Biography: Roger has 20 years of experience in the energy industry, having a range of operational and leadership roles in this time. Originally joining East Midlands Electricity, industry changes have led to positions in Powergen, E.ON and now Western Power Distribution, part of the PPL group.
Initially involved the construction and maintenance of electricity infrastructure, more recently Roger spent several years in the IT function with responsibility for the systems and applications used within the Electricity Distribution business. In 2008 Roger took on a role to lead the development of strategy and plans for Central Networks, responding to the implications of climate change, and changing energy production and consumption. The development of smarter local grids, leveraging value from smart meters and helping customers adopt lower carbon technologies are central to this strategy.
Roger now heads up the team responsible for the initial stage of realising this strategy, through the development and delivery of Future Networks Projects.
Roger is also a non executive director or ElectraLink Ltd. The UK operator of electricity market data exchange infrastructure. Through this role he is actively involved in the debates surrounding the rollout of Smart Meters to all UK homes and businesses.
