Topic: Supervision, Management and Control of Power System Dynamics using WAMS – a Practical Perspective

Abstract: Dynamic phenomena have practical implications on power system performance in terms of the system security and effective use of network assets. In balancing the needs of security and optimisation, detailed knowledge of the dynamic behaviour of the power system is important. Phasor-based wide area monitoring and the tools to extract and analyse power system dynamic characteristics have been available for several years, and this provides a detailed system-wide view of the dynamic behaviour of power systems.

This session will focus on observed dynamic behaviour of different power systems, including oscillations, transient dynamics and system disturbances, and will deal with the practical problems faced and solutions to address them.
